Young Scientist Award
Dr Apurv Dash is an Assistant Professor of Ceramics in the Department of Energy Conversion and Storage at DTU Energy, Technical University of Denmark, Kgs. Lyngby, Denmark. He also holds responsibility for innovation at DTU Energy, supporting the translation of scientific research into industrial technologies and new ventures.
He received his B.Tech. in Ceramic Engineering from the National Institute of Technology Rourkela, India, in 2013 and his M.Sc. in Materials Engineering from KU Leuven, Belgium, in 2016. His international research experience includes work on transparent ceramics at the National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS), Japan. He subsequently conducted his doctoral research at Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH and received his Ph.D. from RWTH Aachen University, Germany, in 2020. He continued as a postdoctoral researcher before joining DTU as a tenure-track Assistant Professor in 2022. His research focuses on advanced ceramic processing, additive manufacturing of non-oxide ceramics, MAX phases, molten-salt synthesis, and ceramics for energy applications. He developed molten salt shielded synthesis, a method enabling oxidation-prone ceramics to be synthesized in air, first reported in Nature Materials. His research has been supported by competitive funding including the Novo Nordisk Foundation Start Package and Pioneer Innovator grants. His earlier distinctions include representation at Falling Walls Lab in 2018 and selection to participate in the 71st Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting.
Dr Dash is a member of the Danish Ceramic Society, an affiliated member society of the European Ceramic Society (ECerS) and has contributed to the European ceramics community through scientific meetings, collaborations and research in advanced ceramics.
