Stuijts Award

Laura Montanaro is full professor of Materials Science and Technology at Politecnico di Torino (I).

She obtained a Master’s degree in Industrial Chemistry at the University of Turin (I) and, subsequently, earned a Ph.D. in Materials Engineering and Processing at ENSM, St. Etienne (F) and INPG, Grenoble (F), defending a doctoral dissertation entitled: “Development of new processing routes based on sol-gel techniques for the preparation of ceramic composites”.

Since October 2000 she is Full Professor; previously, she served as an associate professor from November 1998 to September 2000 and as an assistant professor from October 1989 to June 1990, all positions being held at Politecnico di Torino.

She is author/co-author of 158 technical papers and 13 patents. Her research activity has focused on the processing of oxide ceramics, from the development of innovative synthesis routes to the implementation of non-conventional shaping technologies.

Since 2012 she is corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of Torino; in 2017 she received the “Marco Polo award” for her contribution to the scientific and technological collaboration between Italy and Japan.

She is member of the Italian Ceramic Society. Since 2017, she is fellow of the European Ceramic Society; since June 2019, she is associate editor of the Journal of the European Ceramic Society. She was general chair local of the XVI ECerS Conference (Torino 2019). She received the “Journal of the European Ceramic Society Best Paper Award 2011” for her contribution to the paper “Follow-up of zirconia crystallization on a surface modified alumina powder”.
